Description
This spacious property can accommodate groups of up to 12 guests across three private units and two private guest rooms in the shared main lodge. Throughout the property, you’ll find custom granite, natural stone, three-dimensional artwork, and handcrafted details created by owner Johney Engle. This isn’t a typical vacation rental—it’s a place designed to be experienced and remembered.
Precision Lodge sits near Auke Bay, Auke Lake, and the Tongass National Forest, with easy access to trails, fishing areas, and some of Juneau’s most popular outdoor adventures. Statter Harbor is nearby, where guests can find whale watching, kayaking, fishing, and other excursions. The Mendenhall Glacier is also within easy reach.
The property includes five individual accommodations:
• Shangri-La – A one-bedroom apartment featuring a king bed, queen sleeper sofa, kitchenette, separate toilet room, granite wrap-around desk, and in-unit washer and dryer.
• Suite Rock – A one-bedroom apartment with a queen bed, comfortable living area, full kitchen, granite coffee table, and in-unit washer and dryer.
• Biker’s Bungalow – A compact ground-floor studio decorated with a fun biker theme. It includes a full-sized bed and kitchenette with microwave, toaster oven, and coffee maker.
• Lucky Duck – A private guest room with its own bathroom in the main lodge.
• Baked Alaska – A private guest room with its own bathroom in the main lodge.
Shangri-La, Suite Rock, Lucky Duck, and Baked Alaska are located on the second level and require one flight of stairs. Once inside, these accommodations are on a single level. Biker’s Bungalow is on the ground floor.
Guests have private access to their individual accommodations, along with parking and access to the property’s hot tub. Fishing poles and bicycles may also be available for use around the area.
Johney lives and works on the property and is available if you need assistance or local recommendations. He is happy to interact with guests as much—or as little—as they prefer. Kelli, the property manager, is also available by phone or messaging.
Self-check-in makes late arrivals easy. Your lockbox information will be provided a few days before arrival. Check-in is at 4 PM and check-out is at 11 AM. Early check-in or late check-out may be available for a $50 fee.
Pets may be accepted with prior approval and an additional fee. Pets are not permitted in the shared main lodge.
Guests also receive access to a 10% discount on eligible Alaska Travel Adventures tours. Tours operate May through September in Juneau, Ketchikan, Skagway, and Sitka and include whale watching, glacier tours, kayaking, rafting, hiking, gold panning, boat tours, and more. Ask Kelli for details.
The Story Behind Precision Lodge
Johney Engle has spent decades turning stone and natural materials into functional works of art. His passion for craftsmanship began with kitchen fabrication, eventually leading him to create custom stonework throughout his own home and property.
The lodge reflects that creative vision. Granite counters, stone finishes, sculptural details, and artwork can be found throughout the property. Self-portraits by the late Skylar Engle are also displayed throughout the lodge, adding another artistic layer to the experience.
Precision Lodge is more than a place to sleep after a day in Alaska. It is an unusual, handcrafted space created by an artist who wanted to share his work and his corner of Juneau with visitors.
Location: Approximately 4.5 miles from the airport, 2.5 miles from the Juneau Ferry Terminal, and about 12.5 miles from downtown Juneau. Auke Bay, the University of Alaska, local trails, fishing areas, and other amenities are nearby.
Come stay somewhere with a story—and leave Juneau with one of your own.
